With his life on the line, Eli finally reveals her true nature, resulting in one of the best and most shocking horror scenes in all of film.

When they finally arrive at Paradise Falls, instead of the peaceful retirement Carl has envisioned, he and Carl end up in a fight with a greedy mercenary to save an endangered bird and her family. A gorgeous film by Pixar, with Ed Asner brilliantly adding his voice for Carl, this is a film about love, loss, and a man who realizes that adventure is waiting where you least expect it. Regular readers of this column will already know that I'm unapologetic in my love for Kevin Costner movies, but my affection still knows the difference between the great ones and the lesser experiences . This underseen creature feature leans closer to the former as it captures the anxiety and stress of trying to make a new house a home even before unnatural beings appear to make things even worse. Costner is at his stoic best, but this is a rare one in his filmography in that integrity and will may not be enough to save the day.

Everyone is so young in this movie it will scare you - Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O’Hara and little Winona Ryder. When we mess up our own lives with sheer selfishness, all that’s left to us is to beg forgiveness and move on.
